Anotace

In 1975, Benoit Mandelbrot created the term 'fractal' to describe certain mathematical objects with infinitely deep geometric self-similarity. Up to then such objects existed mainly as isolated 'pathological' counterexamples in mathematics, however Mandelbrot realized that they are a more useful abstraction of the geometry of nature than classical geometry.

One area where fractals appear naturally is the theory of iteration of functions and their systems. In this talk we will give a general overview of the basic concepts and results from fractal geometry, iterated function systems and holomorphic dynamics on a basic level.
